Relativity is usually divided into two parts: special and general

Einstein published his special theory in 1905 and his general theory in 1916**Special Relativity**

Special relativity is the theory of measurement in inertial frames of referenc. All uniform motion is relative and there is not absolute defined state of rest

Special relativity incorporates the principle that the speed of light is allways observed the same regardless of the state of motion.

The theory is termed special because it applies principle of relativity to only the inertial frame of reference.

General relativity unifies special relativity and Newton’s law of gravitation describing gravity as a geometric property of space-time.

Although general relativity is not the only reltivistic theory of gravity, it is the simplest theory that is consistent with data from experiments.
